Our Herd

The herd is social. Visit our Facebook page to find out more...

Since the 1940’s Sezincote ran a commercial herd of cattle but in 2000 the decision was made to start a small herd of pedigree Limousins.  Two cows with calves at foot were bought from Carlisle..  Other foundation purchases were Grange Onyx from George Smith at Daventry and two bulls, Grange Octavius and Rwanda.

Nearly 20 years later, after purchasing top quality females with proven and successful breeding behind them, the Sezincote Herd stands at 120 pedigrees including some from the Winnington and Wilodge herds with a separate commercial herd of 60.

We have experienced the trials and tribulations of having valuable stock bulls and so, since 2010, have moved to 50:50 AI:Natural Service.  Amongst others we are currently using semen from  Wilodge Goldcard, Fastrack, Geyser and Vindicator and Dyfri Buster.  We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our first attempt at embryo transplantation - Grahams Sampson from Hafodlas Ballad hosted by four 2 year old Belgian Blues.  From next year the herd will undertake an extensive flushing programme, mainly from our top brood cows, Fritillaria and Sezincote Huarez.

We have been trialling Cogent’s Pinpoint Collars which have proved to be helpful in achieving a higher rate of successful AI and we have now invested in the technology.

The herd is a member of the Bio Best health scheme. The herd is also performance recorded.

The cattle are fed a Total Mixed Ration which is put together by a nutritionist and mixed on farm every day.

Our aim is to have a closed herd of up to 200 females capable of producing top quality heifers and bulls for sale in to pedigree herds.
